East Washington Black Powder Shooter

Name is Cynthia Lee.
I live about 30 minutes north of Spokane.

I don't get out to shoot like I used to when I was younger but occasionally I will drag out a smoke pole and burn some holy black.
Mainly I practice for hunting skills. Not much of a target shooter now I am in my late 50's. Guns beat me up now.

As for other firearms, I don't use them and don't tend to keep modern guns around long. They tend to get sold off for another black powder gun. I prefer old school and I like the limitations of that single shot. When you only get one shot, you tend to up your marksmanship.

When it comes to black powder guns, I am knowledgeable but certainly no master of the topic. More of a dilettante to be honest. Mainly I am into the guns of the Mountain Man to Civil War eras, and the guns of the nobility during the wheel lock era. Though I can not deny the beauty of the rifles of the War of Independence period.

My fantasy rifle (if'n I had the money to make it happen) would be a wheel lock Hawken. I just think that would make for a hell of a rifle and a visual oddball that would draw side eye glances from the HC/PC crowd.

Welcome from Wenatchee. I've taken a deer or two with my T/C Hawken and had a collection/accumulation of revolvers. I've had a Knight for the past few years but don't remember if I've even shot it. Hunted elk near Cle Elum but no luck. Have a Kodiak double I hunted pigs with but again no luck. I'm 75 with a bad knee (2x broken kneecap), so I can't really hunt any more!

I don't shoot black powder, Altho I've subscribed to Garbe's Black Powder Cartridge News for many years. I do really like single shot rifles. One in my safe is a Ruger Number 1, obviously a custom job, with a killer walnut stock.

Welcome to the forum from Kennewick. Nice country up above Spokane. I've been shooting muzzleloaders for at least 35 years. I prefer them over my modern guns. I think they are more fun to shoot. I've harvested at least 25 deer and 4 Elk with my TC Hawken. I started out with black powder and making my own round balls. Then in a few years I changed to a green mountain barrel with a faster twist and started shootng conical bullets which I made with a REAL mold. I started using pyrodex instead of BP. A few years ago I switched to a CVA Accura LR-X and use Blackhorn 209 powder. It's expensive. I don't make my own bullets anymore but I get out to the range a few times a year and I participate in the muzzleloader Elk season near Yakima. I haven't been successful in a long time now. It's spike only.
