Excellent video on North American dangerous snakes. In 50+ tears of handling snakes, I have only been bitten by one, MAYBE two, venomous snake: A Philippine Mangrove snake (mildly venomous, rear-fanged) and a Utah black-headed snake (rear-fanged but not known to be venomous-VERY small mouth). I will admit to close calls with a Mojave rattlesnake (NOT FUN!! I NEVER liked catching them) and a "River Jack" (rhinoceros viper) that was handed to me in a bag without my being told what was in it (

We deal with the Western and Timber rattlesnakes every season. We relocate them back out to the woods if they don't move along on their own or get into fowl coops. If one returns it visits the pigs. They have a valid function so we try NOT to kill them. I wish we had more bull snakes though....

It's just a thing we are used to doing like being aware and not reaching into or under a place without a full sight picture. Fortunately they are not aggressive so we just try to avoid one another. Our working dogs do a really good job of signaling when they find a snake so we can move it. A 'snake tamer' is really easy to make and we have several around.

Visitors showing up wearing shorts and flip flops are at a major disadvantage any time of the year.

On the ranch wear I guided, we would shoot them if they posed a hazard (near the trailers, where the dogs and children hung around)-the dogs were all snake broke but the wives drew the line at putting a shock collar on the kids!   (:devilish:)
