just picked up my first 10/22, and I already get why people love these things. shoots great right out of the box, but what really sold me is how customizable it is.

I'm trying not to go overboard right away, but I'd like to slowly make it my own. curious what upgrades or small mods you've done that made the biggest difference — or just made it more fun to shoot.

what's worth doing first?

Trigger: KIDD
Barrel: KIDD
Bolt buffer: KIDD
Extractor: Tandom Kross Eagles Talon
Stock: personal preference
There's a ton of DIY mods on Rimfire Central also.
Wrap a rope around your waist, this rabbit hole is deeeeeeep.

To add, auto-release bolt catch. That's the 1st mod I get for all of mine (4 now)
Great call! I missed it, cuz both my Volquartson and KIDD triggers come with an auto bolt release installed. Definitely a must have

So you guys dont want your bolt to lock back on the last round?
Made my Marlin 60 has that.
All we have every done to our 1979 Marlin 60 is jewel the action.
Put a buffer pad inside.
Nuttin fancy just good shooting.

The reason I prefer the Model 60 over the 10/22 is the 20 inch barrel and the 18 round assault tubular mag under the barrel that feeds perfectly, unlike magazines.

Years ago, Volquartson was the only trigger choice and after doing mine, I probably did another 10+ for friends. Seems like I've read that the newest 10-22s aren't in need of one...or is that Ruger advertising hype?
So, trigger first, if needed. Then maybe a barrel. Now you need a different stock. As long as you're at it, a nice scope. Leopold is best. Etc.!

I suppose it all depends on what you wanna do with your rifle. I got a 10/22 takedown stainless model a few months back and all that I changed was the auto bolt release and the bolt damper from the stock one to a hard rubber one. I also added a picatinny rail so I could have more options. The trigger on mine seems to be ok so far but I need to do a lot more shooting before I make any changes there.
