Honing oil

My bottle of official honing oil is about empty. What's a favorite alternative among those who sharpen their own blades & tools? Frankly, I don't believe there's anything special about honing oil except it aids in keeping the media from clogging and thinner is better than thicker. I tend to sharpen while relaxing in the evening.

I have used Marvel Mystery Oil but I don't think the wife cares for the smell (I love it). I'm interested in opinions and preferences.

I don't use oil anymore, water is all I use. Why just water you may ask, it's because most good stones now days require just water.

Even the diamond stones require just water.

Check this site out for some excellent stones. Good water stones.

When you come home you can straighten out the gouges from the sword fights and knife fights from the movie you watched last night.
