The first time I shot past 1,000 yards and what really happened

I thought I would see the bullet in flight or that it would feel like shooting at shorter distances. Instead there was a noticeable delay between the shot and the impact. My wind call was only partially right and the adjustments I had to make taught me how different long range shooting really is.

That delay, it really puts you in your place. The first time I shot at a thousand yards, I honestly thought I'd completely missed the target. Then, a second later, you hear that sweet clang of the steel. Beyond eight hundred yards, the wind just takes over everything.
