Okay, here's a Picture of the Day thread for strange firearms. Post pics of any unusual firearms you find. I'll start with this crazy old pistol that I think has some weird engineering. You can also add a note about its history or why it's interesting, let's see your weird finds :)

That is a "mutineer's pistol" used by sea captains when facing a mutiny at sea.

Air rifle used on the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific:

I believe the 4-barrel pistol was also used when boarding ships, particularly in the sailing era. Or at least that's what all the Brit novels relating those wartime events would have us believe.
The chronicles of the various Lewis and Clark travelers (each man was required to keep a journal; obviously some were more legible than others) were uniformly impressed with the air rifle. Apparently it was very effective on any game smaller than grizzly bears.

I read that it took elk reliably to 100 yards (?). Alan's post was likely used whenever facing a "group" of opponents. Possibly including savages on distant lands.
