My German Drilling

This was sent from Germany during the WWll from my dad.
It's a 16ga with 8x57JRS for the rifle barrel. I had it traced to be circa 1925-1928. It retains 97% bluing and just few minor marks on the stock. My dad had the barrels reamed out to accept the 2 3/4 " shells, they were made back then to be 2 1/2". A gunsmith in Everett done the work.

When I was 16 I shot my first Canadian goose with it. These are the only two pictures that I have for now. I gave it to my son last year.

A drilling that survived WWII, still has its bluing, took your first goose and then you passed it to your son, i think that’s a whole family story.

Back in the 80's, we were on a vacation in Munich. I found a vierling, a double 16-gauge, 30-30 bottom barrel, .22 LR top. Obviously made for the US market... or maybe reconfigured. The price was right and my having an FFL helped with the paperwork. I could hardly wait to play around with it. It never arrived. Of course, I had insured it. After about five months, I received a check for my costs.

Now, seeing Coyotehunter's, I started grieving again...gorgeous!

That's a shame about the vierling. They're one of the coolest firearms out there!

My drilling (dreiling) is a double 16 over 9.3x74, about the same power as a 30/30. OP, it's not in near the condition of your sons firearm. Reblued, pits, obviously it was used to feed a family. Mine was probably produced in the teens. It's a little hard to track them since so many of the Suhl guns were made by independent gunsmiths.

It's a favorite.
