Curious what folks think about keeping ramen in the prep stash. I know it's not exactly nutrient-dense, but it's cheap, filling, and lasts a while.

I've got a few cases stored away, but I'm wondering how long they really last past the date. Also — is there a better way to store them than just keeping the packs in the box?

Anyone rotate ramen regularly or have tricks to make it a little more useful in a long-term situation? They seem to last longer than their expiration date.

Wifey says the ramen noodles will crumble and the spice packets turn sour.
She says long term rice and beans storage in much better.
She has no less than 300lbs of rice here all the time. Why?
Because where she is from in Asia, the bugs would have eaten any stored rice.

We have 30 odd 5 gallon buckets full of rice, beans, and cracked wheat.
These buckets have at least a ten year shelf life according to Bobs Red Mill in Portland.
where every one should be getting their supplies from.

Food balance. Rice & beans are the perfect protein meal. Problem is some folk get all bound up inside. Cracked wheat, also know as "gruel" in the invested in England 1100-1400AD.

It is VERY filling. We make a 1:3 cup wheat to water, boil and flavor. It keeps me full past lunch.
We also will use it as give away food for those whom happen by. "Here is 3 days worth of food, leave, if you return you will be shot"

Sounds darn good. Well now the downside of cracked wheat. It if full of fiber. So stock up on TP. The rice & Beans counter the fiber, you are balanced in a time of need.

If you happen to oen a flour mill ($50 at the Vancouver prepper store), if they are still around.
You can grind up the cracked wheat into flour. Now with your Coleman stove and oven you can make bread.
