Watching a good movie: "You Know My Name" about Marshall Bill Tilghman, a sorta period correct Raylen Givens 
> For those who don't know, Tilghman was one of the "Three Guardsmen" who policed the Indian/Oklahoma Territory under Judge Isaac Parker (the "Hanging Judge"!). He rode along with Heck Thomas and Chris Madsen. Judge Parker's niece was Cynthia Parker (? unsure-she had an uncle named Isaac who was a Texas legislature) whose son was the Comanche chief Quannah Parker.
Chris Madsen had a colorful career: he claimed, at different times, to have served in the Danish Army, Irish Republican Army & French Foreign Legion. He did enlist and fight in several Indian campaigns as a Quartermaster Sergeant in the Fifth US Cavalry. After 15 years in the US Cavalry, he became a Deputy Marshal. In 1898, he re-enlisted and served in the same rank in the "Rough Riders" under Teddy Roosevelt,
Tilghman was shot (assassinated) by a corrupt Federal lawman in the oil boom town of Cromwell, OK. "Tilghman died in the early morning hours of the first of November. Tilghman had been brought in to help bring the town under control. One month later the town of Cromwell was torched, with every brothel, bar, flop house and pool hall burned to the ground, allegedly by friends of Tilghman." Urban legend says Chris Madsen was responsible!
Sam Elliot does a good job of portraying Tilghman.
