Howdy from the Tri-Cities in SE WA

Hey, my son lives close to you in Benton City. He is picking up his Sharps rifle tomorrow, well technically later today. I had got out of shooting for the most part due to chronic health issues and my son got me back into shooting in July of 2024.

My health has taken another downturn, but I try to make it out to the range every month, although sometimes it doesn't work out. He go me back into shooting by gifting me a few guns (really nice ones 2 Colts, a Ruger, and a Beretta), about 600 bucks worth of ammo, and a small safe.

As I got more into it, I bought him a few guns as well as giving him a couple that were passed down to me from my mom and grandpa.

Just over a year ago, I started with one gun and two boxes of ammo. Now I've got quite a few. Don't really want to say how many. About half are rimfires. I liquidated most of my guitars as I can't really play anymore due to arthritis. Turned about 40 of them into guns. When I kick off, my son is going to inherit a nice bunch of firearms and a few nice guitars.

I am actually in Oregon by the way. I hope to find out more about the legalities of visiting my son with my guns and shooting up there with him.

Screw "The Law" ...... Go shoot with your kid.
If your that worried about it, Just put them in your trunk and drive.
By the way I have a Shilo Sharps 1874 "Quigley" model Sharps rifle in 45-70.

I bought 10 round mags to travel with up there, and yeah I will keep them in the trunk. We are facing a normal capacity mag ban here in March. They banned FRT's to take effect next month as well. We will also have a permit to purchase requirement in the near future. We are hoping to recall our governor soon as well.

My son said his Sharps is a Quigly. I am not sure what that means. He is really into old model guns.

When I go to the range with one of the girl's ARs I hang a 1968 straight 20 on them.

The state rule is: IF you have it BEFORE 2012, they dont care.
The ATF rule is about to be over turned, so soon things will be back to normal.

Them rimfires are selling for some good prices. Ive been trying to trade my Model 60 assault squirrel gun for a bolt action one for years.
I dont see rimfire bolts for sale any more.

SCREW The Alphabet Jack@$$es. I shoot what I want, where I want. Any time I want !
MOLON LABE !

Shouldn't be any problem visiting and shooting, as long as they are cased according to the law. I gave my niece a S & W Model 15 for a wedding present, and a couple of Glock 9mms last year. No transfer fee, tax or FFL per WA State law on with family transfers!
"
Washington law only allows unregulated family gun transfers between "immediate" family members. For this purpose, the law defines immediate family members as:

  • Spouses and Domestic Partners
  • Children
  • Parents and Parents-in-Law
  • Siblings and Siblings-in-Law
  • Grandparents
  • Grandchildren
  • Nieces, Nephews, and First Cousins
  • Aunts and Uncles"

Exact wording: RCWs > Title 9 > Chapter 9.41 > Section 9.41.113

"4) This section does not apply to:
(a) A transfer between immediate family members, which for this subsection shall be limited to spouses, domestic partners, parents, parents-in-law, children, siblings, siblings-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, first cousins, aunts, and uncles, that is a bona fide gift or loan;
(b) The sale or transfer of an antique firearm;
