Just wrapped up our last series and now we're on the hunt for something new. I'm really craving solid storytelling and characters that draw you in. It doesn't need to be a recent release, just something that's worth spending time on. I'm open to any genre, and it's a bonus if it's easily available on one of the major streaming services. Anyone have recommendations that hit the mark?

"Lucifer" on NetFlix: Satan is tired of being assigned to Heaven and tales a vacation. So he goes to L.A. and opens a disco and becomes an LAPD homicide consultant! Dark Humor, & language! (Series) "After leaving hell and moving to Los Angeles, Lucifer becomes interested in punishing criminals."
"The Cursed" a very Gothic werewolf story. Dark and brooding. Only bad thing is all the French have Irish accents (

"The Swarm": A climate change sci-fi mystery! (Series)
"Stranger Things": Scifi series with Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder. "Set in the 1980s, the series centers on the residents of the fictional small town of Hawkins, Indiana, after a nearby human experimentation facility opens a gateway between Earth and a hostile alternate dimension known as the Upside Down."
"Ballard": Spinoff from "Bosch". If you haven't watched Bosch, do so first. Titus Welliver in a very Raymond Chandler-style police series set in modern-day L.A. "Harry Bosch has murder on his mind. A former Special Forces officer who has done tours in the Middle East, Bosch is now a tenacious, jazz-loving homicide detective in the Hollywood Division of the LAPD. Bosch is faced with myriad challenges as he investigates suspicious deaths and follows trails of corruption -- including the dark side of the police department -- in his relentless pursuit of the truth. The critically acclaimed procedural is based on Michael Connelly's series of best-selling novels"
And, of course, if you are an Elmore Leonard fan (52 Pick-up with Roy Scheider), there is "Justified". Raylen Givens is a US Marshal transferred back to his home area of Harlan County, Kentucky. He grew up there and dug coal in the mines growing up. He was transferred after "arranging" a gunfight with a mob hitman. He told the US Attorney" He drew first. I was faster. Shooting justified". Problem was he gave the guy 24 hours to leave Miami or he would kill him on sight! When he gets back to Harlan, one of his school chums is a Neo-Nazi drug dealer! "Deputy Raylan Givens has his own, Wild West-style methods of upholding justice, putting him at odds with the criminals he hunts and with his bosses in the U.S. Marshals Service. And an incident prompts his reassignment to the Kentucky district where he grew up. The character is based on one created by author Elmore Leonard in several books and short stories."
Of course, "Dexter": Who can't love a serial killer working as a blood expert for Miami PD who only kills bad guys? "Dexter Morgan is a Miami-based blood splatter expert who doesn't just solve murders; he commits them too. In fact, he's a serial killer -- but he only murders the guilty, so he feels justified with his lifestyle choices. His policewoman sister and his cop co-workers have no idea Dexter lives a double life; however, adoptive father Harry knows his secret, and does, in fact, help Dexter hone his "skills." It's a unique brand of justice for which charming Dexter feels a psychological hunger. "
And, ultimate dark humor is "Grimm". Nick is a Portland PD homicide detective who starts seeing weird things/people. His dying aunt tells him he is descended from the Grimm Brothers and the Grimm Fairy Tales are dark family histories. It is his fate to run around Portland killing monsters while keeping his day job! Along the way, he develops a "bestie" friendship with a "reformed" werewolf (Pilates, vegan, etc!). Lots of gallows-type humor as they slay trolls, werewolves, evil mermaids/mermen, reptile-dudes, etc. "Portland detective Nick Burkhardt, descended from a long line of warriors known as Grimms, defends his city from magical creatures known as Wesen, which are part human and part animal. Fighting alongside his partner, Hank, colleague Sergeant Wu and friends Monroe and Rosalee, Nick faces off against internal and external forces, including his police captain, Sean Renard. "

Not a movie but a worthwhile, so far, thriller: "Servant" on Prime.
Started watching "Servant" on Prime. Great!! Keeps you twisting and turning. Each time you think you've got it figured out, it gives you a new twist!
