Cowboy/western movies, bwahhh-hahh. When ordered to drop your guns, most of the time the dropped guns were into dirt/sand/grime or thrown clear off and away. Not to mention sand, dirt, clogged barrel, etc.

I bust my gut seeing those scenes. Those revolvers and rifles were worth their weight in something.... There was no dollar store for guns.

Any stories?
 
Those scenes crack me up too. One tumble in sand and half those guns would seize up. I cringe imagining the armorer afterward, swearing quietly while cleaning priceless iron by hand alone.

Except maybe a 1911 Colt!
 
Ha! Fair point, those old Colts would probably still run after a sand bath. Browning really did build them with a little frontier stubbornness baked in.
Mine in the Army sounded like a can of spray paint if you rattled it!
