I hope everyone had a great Halloween. Did you hit the woods, stay home with family, or head out for some community fun? Let’s hear your Halloween stories (sporting-style :))

Not "sporting style" but my wife had commented she has never seen "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" or "The Phantom of the Opera" (Lon Chaney, Sr. silent versions). So we watched them on Prime or Netflix (forgot which) and passed out candy. She would not let me put on my "Plague Doctor" mask and hide in the driveway (PARTY POOPER!).

While an undergrad, I took "Film as an Art Medium" for my Liberal Arts requirement (better than "Art & Civ" or Music Appreciation!!!). Very interesting course! Went through silent films such as D.W. Griffith) to current (1968-9) films such as Midnight Cowboy and Easy Rider. What was astounding was some found footage in the form of a test reel that was partially restored! It was Lon Chaney, Sr. with a trunk of miscellaneous props doing improvised impersonations. When he put on a baby bonnet and sucked on a baby bottle he BECAME a baby! Same with an old man's coat and cane=he didn't impersonate an old man, he BECAME an old man!!

If you ever get a chance watch" The Unholy Three" with Lon Chaney, Sr. playing head of a jewelry robbery gang!!!!(1925 silent version, not the 1930 version dubbed as a talkie!).

"Three performers leave a sideshow after Tweedledee (Harry Earles), a midget performer, assaults a young heckler and sparks a melee. The three join together in an "unholy" plan to become wealthy. Professor Echo, the ventriloquist (Lon Chaney), assumes the role of Mrs. O'Grady, a kindly old grandmother, who runs a pet shop, while Tweedledee plays her grandchild. Hercules (Victor McLaglen), the strongman, works in the shop along with the unsuspecting Hector McDonald (Matt Moore). Echo's girlfriend, pickpocket Rosie O'Grady (Mae Busch), pretends to be his granddaughter."

That sounds like a fun and classic Halloween night! Those old films have such atmosphere. I’ll have to check out The Unholy Three, thanks for the recommendation
